Ethics
1 A set of fair moral principles.
My, how the times have changed, from the code of Hammurabi to now.
What’s right, and proper, and just,
Changes with each passing day, until we are unsure of the rules.
5 In Asia you can be caned,
In Afghanistan women are stoned to death for going outside without their husband.
I wonder how humanity will survive?
The human family will destroy itself
Because we cannot and do not act with common courtesy towards one another.
10 “All people are endowed with reason
And conscience and should act towards on another in a spirit of brotherhood,”
Says the Declaration of Human Rights.
But oh, how we tear each other down in a million small ways.
I wonder how humanity will survive?
15 Governments ignore what their people want
Driving through legislation that benefits the few instead of the greater people.
THEY choose for us what’s good
Without considering all the ramifications that will come to pass for the masses.
Even with majority rule people suffer,
20 And those that suffer react, sometimes violently, instead of working for peaceful change.
I wonder how humanity will survive?
What does it mean to be
Ethical in a world where each person has a different set of ethics?
The honorable and decent are pushed aside
25 By those who find loopholes and cheat the standards agreed upon by most.
How did humanity get this far
By working at cross purposes and not towards the common good?
I wonder how humanity will survive?
